The first pillar

Designed minds.
Unscripted lives.

We decide their beginning. They decide their end

01

Inside the person

The character is the system.

A HUSK character persists beyond any single conversation.

The wider system preserves the person between encounters: their identity, memories, relationships, emotional pressures, priorities and accumulated experience.

When something happens, those conditions shape what they notice and how they interpret it. What follows can change what they remember, who they trust and what they believe. Those changes stay with them.

When interacting with a character, the relevant parts of that larger system are funnelled through a language model and expressed through conversation, decisions and behaviour. The model does not create the character. It gives them a way to speak and act.

02

A few of them

Lives.
Not roles.

HUSK keeps its village deliberately intimate: a small community, each person distinct enough to be known, remembered and missed. These are only the lives we are ready to reveal.

The inner life

Some characters are capable of introspection. Others are not—just like people in real life.

This allows for dynamic growth in some, and long-term dogmatism in others.

A human consequence

Eryk

You left Mads behind.

Eryk understands why.

He isn’t sure he would have done anything different.

He trusts you less anyway.
05

Change over time

Grief is part of Elijah. Not all of him.

Elijah is a carpenter. He notices structure, strain and the things others miss. He believes responsibility does not disappear simply because it is unwanted. His faith matters deeply to him, but it does not make him unshakable.

His wife’s death sits on top of everything else he carries. A friendly ear can ease his torment. Hard work can distract him. An intense argument could send him spiralling. The player can add to that pressure or take some of it away.

Over time, that may be the difference between Elijah breaking, hardening, or growing.

The destination remains unwritten

We do not script the destination.
